![]() Sometimes it's because the surface was designed with that software in mind. Sometimes the included software is just an extra. ![]() It's more common that a control surface is designed for any MIDI capable DJ software in general though. But that doesn't mean that you can't use it with other software. Sometimes a control surface layout is designed around a specific software, in which case you might want to use that software since it might add extra functionality and/or easy of use. I'm not aware of a modern DJ control surface that doesn't use MIDI, but just to be sure check the manual, data sheet (Amazon's suck, check the official one), or contact a representative before purchasing. This means that as long as your control surface uses MIDI you should be able to use it with any DJ software. And all the top DJ software accepts MIDI as input. Most (if not all) DJ control surfaces designed to control DJ software use MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) to communicate with the program. What is it that has to match up between the hardware and the software for the two to be compatible? All Hercules products appear to ship with DJUCED, but can you use other software?.Numark Mixtrack Pro 3 "includes" Serato DJ Intro but can you use Traktor or Virtual DJ?.Vestax VCI-300MKII seems to be a collaboration with Serato no mention of Traktor or Virtual DJ.(I'm vaguely familiar with what this means.) Gemini DJ G4V appears to "ship with" Virtual DJ but I see someone saying there are "maps" available to use with Traktor. Can any software be used to control any controller? Currently I'm aware of four software options: Serato, Traktor, Virtual DJ, and DJUCED, and I've read a fair amount about each online to understand basic pros and cons, but I'm confused as to what determines whether a certain DJ controller will be compatible with a certain software. I've had some practice with Serato in a classroom environment, where we used Technics (vinyl) connected via Rane. What are your thoughts on these Serato developments? Do you like Serato Play’s features? Think Tidal integration is cool? Why or why not? Let us know below.I'm looking to purchase an all-in-one DJ controller, as I can't afford a modular DJ setup. Serato Play’s features aren’t revolutionary – they’re just basic mixing controls that have been standard in other DJ software like Virtual DJ and Traktor for a while now – but this is the first time we’re seeing them in Serato software when you use the app without any other DJ hardware connected, so they are welcome additions to the feature set. There is no offline mode at the moment, so you need to be connected to the internet if you want to stream from Tidal’s library. You need an internet connection and a Tidal subscription in order to use it (there’s a 30-day free trial for new subscribers) and then you can access Tidal’s library and playlists from within Serato DJ. Serato Play is a US$39 expansion that adds three-band EQs, filters and a crossfader, plus new hotkeys for controlling them using your keyboard. The latest versions also include Tidal music streaming integration which lets you play any tune from the Tidal catalogue straight from within Serato DJ Pro or Serato DJ Lite. The updates include a brand new expansion pack called Serato Play ( review here) that lets you DJ using just your laptop by giving you a mixer interface, keyboard hotkeys and DJ splitter cable compatibility.
